Axioms
The axioms of accountable systems
Use these as a doctrinal checklist when authoring or auditing standards.
Axiom 1 — Finitude: Human attention is finite and must be treated as a protected resource.
Axiom 2 — Consent: Legitimate systems secure informed consent at every critical handoff.
Axiom 3 — Stewardship: Operators accept full responsibility for the outcomes and latency of their automation.
Axiom 4 — Reversibility: High-impact actions require safe rollback paths and transparent appeal channels.
Axiom 5 — Legibility: Users must be able to see, understand, and audit the burden imposed on them.
