Earned autonomy

Definition

Autonomy that expands only after demonstrated reliability, monitoring, and accountability. What the system is permitted to do widens only as named owners and repair records show it can handle more scope.

The demonstration is evidence for widening a specific authority grant, recorded as a transition in its grant state. Reliability is the argument for an expansion decision, never a substitute for one.

Hypothetical example

  • After six months of clean audits, the escalation bot gains approval rights for low-risk cases.
