Most standards govern via documents, roles, reviews, and attestations.
Ethotechnics’ critique isn’t that prevailing standards are “bad.” It’s that they mostly govern by representation: documents, roles, reviews, and attestations. Modern harm requires governance by control.

Self-critique
Style as a moat
The project’s own idiom can become the same procedural filter it critiques.
Ethotechnics writes in a compressed, structural idiom, and the compression is doing work: it keeps the claims precise and makes them hard to quote loosely. The failure it risks is the one the project names elsewhere — a closed linguistic circuit that excludes the people with the most accurate knowledge of where a system fails. An analysis of administrative exclusion that requires a vocabulary nobody at the counter has received has built its own intake filter.
The commitment that follows is not dilution. It is that every binding layer carries its meaning without the idiom: each standard page is readable on its own, the plain-language explainers and copy-ready phrases exist so the method can be used by someone who has never read the theory, and glossary anchors resolve to definitions written in sentences rather than in references to other sentences. Compression is allowed at the top of the stack and nowhere it blocks the bottom.
- A standard page is self-contained. Using STD-01 or the minimum viable contestability standard requires the page you are on and nothing else.
- Theory motivates and never gates. The essays say why the laws hold; no instrument, validator, or checklist assumes you have read them.
- Every instrument states its inputs in plain terms. A diagnostic that cannot say what it asks for and what it returns in one screen is not done.
- Where the vocabulary is needed, it is linked at first use. A term that cannot be reached from where it appears is a defect, not a register of sophistication.
