The traceable chain of authority, decisions, and controls that carries responsibility for outcomes through a system. A clear ethical load path names, at each stage, who can halt the harm, reverse the decision behind it, and repair what cannot be undone, so handoffs remain accountable.

- Each lifecycle stage has a named owner with authority to halt, reverse, or repair, plus backup coverage.
- Incident reviews show the escalation path was used without dead ends or orphaned decisions.
Hypothetical example
- A transit authority publishes a named escalation map for halting automated dispatch, including after-hours owners.
